Intertek's Clean Energy Associates (CEA) serves as a trusted partner to some of the world’s leading solar project developers, owners and financiers, providing a range of services across the value chain. These services include quality assurance, supply chain management and traceability as well as technical support to clean energy projects.
We are currently recruiting a Senior Energy Storage Engineer (m/f/d/x) in Europe to lead and execute a wide range of technical tasks in support of client needs and the continued development of Intertek CEA’s energy storage technical services platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent engineering reviews and technical due diligence for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects and designs
- Develop preliminary engineering drawings, performance models, and technical documentation for ESS projects
- Perform energy, economic, and performance analysis, including efficiency, degradation, SoC, auxiliary loads, and C-rate evaluations
- Review technical contracts, supplier documentation, warranties, and third-party engineering reports to identify risks and ensure quality compliance
- Manage project execution, resource planning, timelines, budgets, and client deliverables across all project phases
- Lead on-site inspections, commissioning activities, SAT witnessing, delivery inspections, and QA/QC audits for BESS equipment and systems
- Act as an internal technical expert for battery storage systems while supporting thought leadership initiatives such as white papers, presentations, and webinars
- Maintain strong industry knowledge and relationships with ESS manufacturers and technology providers to support innovation and internal capability development
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in large-scale ESS design, modeling, or optimization (10MW+), ideally in solar-plus-storage projects; alternatively 3+ years in battery technology applications, testing, or standards
- Strong understanding of electrochemistry, battery technologies, and ESS performance metrics such as round-trip efficiency, degradation, depth of discharge, SoC, and C-rate
- Familiarity with key ESS components and integration topics including PCS, EMS, BMS, and overall system architecture
- Excellent project management, analytical, organizational, and client communication skills
- Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports in English and confidently review complex engineering documents and risk assessments
- Proficiency with engineering software tools
- Willingness to travel for site inspections and audits, work across global time zones, and comply with on-site PPE requirements
